The three vehicles that cover almost every trip
The sedan — for couples and solo travellers
A comfortable air-conditioned car — typically a Toyota Prius or Axio — is the workhorse of Sri Lankan travel and the best value on the road. It seats one to three in comfort with normal luggage, sips fuel on the long hill climbs, and slips through narrow lanes and busy towns that a bigger vehicle finds awkward. The minivan — for families and small groups
The Toyota KDH minivan is the island's default for anyone travelling as a group or with real luggage. It carries four to seven people with room for cases, and the raised seating gives everyone a better view of the passing scenery. The SUV — for comfort and the rougher roads

What each vehicle costs
Pricing is per vehicle, per day, and already all-inclusive — fuel, tolls, parking and the driver's own costs are baked in. A car starts around $55, a van from $55, and an SUV from $75 a day. Split between everyone travelling, that's remarkably good value for private, door-to-door transport:
